My Cousin, Urlika

Urlika is my favorite cousin. She lives in Uppsala, Sweden and the third child of my aunt. She was adopted to Sweden when she was a baby, as my aunt couldn't afford to raise three kids. My aunt, however, had always felt guilty and longed for Urlika so much since then. Becoming 24 years old, she realized how much she wanted to know herself and her mother's country deep down in her heart, even though she was suffering constantly from the feeling of being abandoned from her country, Korea. Luckily she was so young that she could find the information about herself easily, and she could finally find my aunt. Before I met her, I didn't even know my aunt had a third child, but I was happy for my aunt and for myself, because it was like I gained a new sister.

I was just so astonished when I was told she was from Sweden, as I was studying Swedish in my university. With my knowledge of Swedish and the culture, I could communicate with her easily and we instantly became friends. Just like many old generation, my aunt couldn't speak any other foreign languages at all, and Urlika almost babbled Korean, too. Therefore, I was able to help them to communicate and get to know each other, even though I was also babbled Swedish. This experience drove me to study Swedish more eagerly and I decided to take some courses in Sweden last summer, and I had such an amazing time in there. I sometimes had lost my motivation or reasons to learn Swedish before I met her, but now I am definitely full of motivation to learn it. Urlika, she is my favorite cousin for all these reasons.

The Worst waiter Ever

We never saw that kind of a stunningly bright smile before, Lauren and I  thought when we walked into the newly opened vegetarian restaurant in downtown. Although, the food was a bit disappointing and we complained about too much boiled cabbage, he was just so kind and never lose the smiley face. Since that day, we couldn't stop going to the restaurant almost everyday just to see the waiter.

One day, we suddenly realized that we were not the only girls who came  to see him and was attracted to him romantically. In fact that all of waiters and waitresses were so good-looking in the restaurant. It seemed like every women expected one of the waiters was going to ask them out on a date after he finished the work, and every men was about to ask one of the waitresses out on a date! Lauren and I quickly paid the bill and just fly to our dormitory. We laughed so hard and finally talked about the bad, bad food in the restaurant.

Later,  we were told that the owner of the restaurant hired only good-looking servers as a marketing strategy, and made the waiters serve only female customers and the waitresses serve only male customers. He also ordered them to give smiley faces to every customers in any case, any time and any how. The owner thought that the tactic would attract more customers but eventually he had to give it up, as every men began to flirt with the waitresses and women also didn't even leave the restaurant until it was closed at night.

Lauren and I still feel embarrassed when we talk about the restaurant and laugh at ourselves how naive we were. Apparently, he is the most handsome waiter I have ever met, but because he broke our heart so badly, he is the worst waiter in my life ever.
