Dutch Mona Lisa

In Vermeer's portrait, called the 'Dutch Mona Lisa', the girl is wearing big, shiny pearl earring. The girl with a pearl earring stares at me with her calm, gentle eyes. Her head is wrapped with a piece of yellow and blue clothes. Her eyes are widening as if she is dreaming. Her lips parted, remain open as if she is about to say something. She, however, keeps her silence. There is no word coming from her mouth. She is standing still. Her brown clothes match with the dim, dark background. The only thing that reflects light in the painting is the pearl earring. Right next to her cheek, it's there, dangling from her left ear. The twinkling earring shone her face with glow. Her expression is unreadable, though her charm lies on her gaze, subtle but somehow seducible. Her beauty is complete with her fine jewelry.

  1. 1.What I like about this writing is that it gives me a big image of the girl and some kind of mysterious atmosphere.
2.Your main point seems to be that the girl with pearl earrings is gazing toward you as if she has something to say.
    3. I liked the part where it says "Her lips parted, remain open as if she is about to say something." The writer described her very clear in detail. Also, "The only thing that reflects light in the painting is the pearl earring." shows that pearl is the only thing bright and noticeable in the painting.
    4. The sentence where it says "Her eyes are widening as if she is dreaming." sounds strange to me. If someone was dreaming, widening eyes seems unnatural to me. I was a bit confused as I read down.
5.Since earrings should be a pair, I was wondering whether the girl had only one earring on or whether she was posing in a different way.
Extra description about this part would definitely make the picture more clear.

  2. What I like about this piece of writing is the detailed description of the painting.
Your main point seems to be that your favorite painting is the Dutch Mona Lisa.
These words or lines struck me as powerful: Her eyes are widening as if she is dreaming. I like it because it makes me imagine what she looks like.
These lines of parts could be improved: The only thing that reflects light in the painting is the pearl earring. Because you could have described the earrings a little bit more.
The one change you could make that would make the biggest improvement in this piece of writing is you could have used more lively words.
