Week 1 paragraph

A favorite piece of art or music

'I'm Not in Love'

My favorite piece of music is 'I'm Not in Love' by 10cc, one of the greatest British rock groups. The reason why I adore this song is its lyrics and melody remind me of my puppy love, which was one way love. After knowing that she would naver have even a glimpse of me no matter how many nights I had spent writing her love letters, I struggled to deny myself falling for her. Even then, I was completely obsessed by her for a long time. The protagonist of the song also repeatedly reminds himself of that he is not in love. However, the words of the song tell us that his behavior, from calling the girl up to keeping the girl's picture upon the wall in his room, proves merely the opposite fact -- he is seriously in love with her. The part, a female narrator's voice is vaguely heard 'Big boys, don't cry' over again, and then, fades away, leads me to be in a almost hypnotic state. The way the piece fades in with the sound of a heartbeat is an amazing feat of audio imagery, representing young lover's restless soul. The inconsistency between words and behavior of the man expresses the agony of immature love that everyone must have had in the past. 'I'm Not in Love' by 10cc is sheer perfection that makes me feel like I am back to my puppy love days.

  1. I like that one of reasons he like the music is related to his personal experience. It makes this writing honest and not tacky. He wrote a few reasons describing how the music sounded. Especailly, from the sentence 'the music made him in a hypnotic state', I coudld imagine the atmostphere of the song. However, some parts are unclear and hard to understand that how the music representing young lover's restless soul. Also, this writing can be more organized saying the personal reflection on the music with his experience and details about how the music sounded.

  2. It is about a favorite peice of music you are into and you wrote about a song. As Semi already mentioned above, I like it because you wrote about song related to your own experience. But you are just explain or describe the story of this song, which makes me try to listen to this song, but it would be better if you described more about your dog and how you took(or have been taking) care of it. Because you obviously mentioned that when you listen to the song, it reminds you of your puppy and your love for him but you didn't tell the reason or explanation.

I particularly like this line; "The part, a female narrator's voice is vaguely heard 'Big boys, don't cry' over again, and then, fades away, leads me to be in a almost hypnotic state."

Because even though I haven't heard about this song, I feel like I can hear the woman's voice or rather, tearful voice and like I said, It exactly makes me try to listen to this song.

If you put more information about your puppy and the relationship(?), I think it will be a lot better piece of writing.:)

  3. :) Oh, I am really grateful to both of you for the honest and helpful advice.

During the class, we talked about the difficulty in understanding the meaning of my description of 'the sound' and, soon, I'll figure out how to make 'balance of vocab levels'.

And about 'puppy love' - this is an idiomatic expression which means 'adolscent love or infatuation'. When a boy and a girl love each other, we call it 'puppy love'. I wish I had helped you with grasping what it means. :)

    Thank you all once again!

  5. LOL I have to say I'm sorry, Jeongchul. I honestly didn't know that "puppy love" means kind of like "first love".
Now I know it after reading your explanation, that was so sweet of you! Thanks!;)
